Johnny’s music is one thing- last year his single “Texas To You,” was a Top 10 hit on the Texas music chart, but the story of him (personally), and his band is something worthy of a feature story on its own. Derek Sholl recorded his CD "Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time” between Nashville and the legendary Rosewood Studios in Texas where LeAnn Rimes also did some early recordings. “We released a couple of songs to radio and continue to play a lot of live shows,” says Derek, “what we’re doing right now in Texas is beginning to take off. We’re really starting to build a nice fan base.” Derek has already played with a slew of well-known country artists. Originally formed in 2002 in the shadows of the birthplace of rock and roll, Sun Studios in Memphis, Turbo 350 is the creation of Adam Reynolds (guitar, vocals) and Aaron Covington (slap upright bass). Both were regulars at Sun Studios, with Covington working as a sound engineer and both working as studio musicians. Soon developing a reputation for their shows being "controlled chaos", Turbo 350 became staples of the world famous Beale Street music scene.
With open, haunting music reminiscent of the desolate west Texas sky, Lubbock-based Thrift Store Cowboys have captivated audiences from coast to coast with their dark, subtle lyrics and a blending of soaring violin draped against bottom-ended guitar and pedal steel sounds that spaghetti Western composer Ennio Morricone might envy. Following in the unique footsteps of a Lubbock legacy started by Buddy Holly, The Flatlanders, and Terry Allen, Thrift Store Cowboys add their own modern influences and flavor to the already rich musical heritage.
