Del Castillo is a sextet. Two brothers, Rick and Mark del Castillo are the heart of the show with their technically and musically proficient acoustic guitar duet. Behind them, two percussionists keep the Latin beat alive. Carmelo Torres plays to bongos and Mike Zeoli carefully leads the beat from a single drum set. They combine their efforts into what sounds like a two-man drumline. What makes the beat so good is the pure musicianship of the percussion package. They play soft; they play loud, varying the volume and beats as if they were backing a symphonic orchestra. Start: 10:30 pm

Stage names pretty much define this Texas “garage-a-billy” band: Alotof Rockowski plays the bass, Johnny Cat stands up while jammin’ on the drums, and Clem Hoot, a Norwegian, is the lead guitarist and lead vocalist. Well, they all do vocals. Clem Hoot explains the “garage-a-billy” sound: “It’s not so traditional. It does have the influences of Johnny Cash and Hank Williams—but then again it also has The Ramones, Dead Kennedys, and Sex Pistols, and all the great punk rockers.” More here (with Podcast): www.sanangelolive.com/node/3549. | ||
