Randy Mankin says the last thing he could imagine is having throngs of corporate media descend on his little town of 3,000 inhabitants, chasing the story about the ongoing tragedy at the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints (FLDS) compound just north of town.

Mississippi. Minnesota. Idaho. Florida. California. Ohio. Wisconsin. These are just a few of the states that some of the 2008 Colts call home in the off-season. But when they travel to San Angelo to play for the Colts for four months, they need new homes, and that’s where our fans come in.

Saturday night, “Midlanders” took San Angelo by storm when they showed up in support of their hometown hero Cody Hughes Davidson at Blaine’s Pub. Davidson’s no stranger to Blaine’s, and carrying such titles as 2006 Texas Singer and Songwriter of the Year and 2007 Texas Artist of the Year from Payne County Line, it’s not hard to see why fans deem his music worthy of the commute. Easily one of the most impressive acts I’ve seen in 2008, two questions come to mind: Why aren’t these guys famous yet, and how long until they will be? This isn’t just a marvelous singer with some decent backup and a little rock guitar. This is a band featuring three talented vocalists with harmonies the caliber of The Eagles, and some lead guitar work that perfectly melds ‘80s rock with the band’s modern country. With Podcast!
We’d been expecting a country band, so when they showed up with a long-haired singer sporting a cowboy hat and a Pantera shirt, we were a little surprised. That surprise escalated when the band began discussing which System of a Down albums they liked the best while we (stage crew) mic’ed the stage, jamming “Toxicity” over the house PA. With Podcast!

Well, results are in, and Texas is the 12th unhealthiest state, according to a recent publication by CQ Press, a division of Congressional Quarterly, Inc. More specifically, CQ’s “16th Annual Healthiest State Award” released at the end of March put Texas as the 39th Healthiest State out of, of course, 50.
He’s had a taste of both independent and affiliated ball, and now, after a short stint with the Kannapolis Intimidators of the White Sox organization, John Anderson is back in San Angelo with a Colts Jersey on, this time as a player-coach. With Podcast!
The head of the Tom Green County Library had always wanted to host a book festival, and the idea coincided perfectly with the “authors” theme the Schools Foundation was featuring this year, Mead says. From there, the two organizations contacted the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts and planned to host their combined event on the same day as the fifth annual Sidewalk Chalk Festival.
The Campaign may be just a baby, but there’s nothing wrong with that. In 2007, the measuring stick of talent put this toddler taller than the rest when Fort Worth Weekly named the Campaign “Best New Artist” at their annual Music Awards. The receipt of this award was followed by a performance on Good Morning Texas where the band played “Still Got The World” in front of 200,000 viewers. With Podcast.
The Crucifixers headlined The Deadhorse's Saturday night show, and the set list was nothing short of stunning. With songs spanning from the head-bobbing “Speed of Light” to the head-banging “Break It Off In Your Ass,” it’s not hard to see why fans flock to see these guys; it’s just good rock and roll.
