Two Dead in Wrong-Way Crash on Lubbock Overpass

LUBBOCK, TX — A head-on crash claimed the lives of two Texas drivers late Friday night on a Lubbock highway, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. on the US 87 overpass at Farm to Market Road 1585.

Christina Elaine Castro, 33, of Abilene, and Marcos Noyola Castanon, 23, of Wilson, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities reported that Castro, driving a 2022 Dodge Ram 1500, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of US Highway 87 when her vehicle collided with Castanon's southbound 2015 Toyota sedan.

The impact happened at the crest of the overpass, under clear weather conditions, and on dry roads. Investigators noted that Castro was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, whereas Castanon was.

The posted speed limit on that section of the highway is 75 miles per hour.
