San Angelo ISD Marked "Superior" in Statewide Financial Integrity Rating

For the 13th year in a row, the San Angelo Independent School District has received a Superior Achievement ranking on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) receiving a perfect score on the rating criteria.

FIRST is the financial accountability system for Texas school districts developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76th Texas Legislature in 1999. The primary goal of Schools FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial resources, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with Texas’ school finance system.

The Schools FIRST accountability rating system assigns one of four financial accountability ratings to Texas school districts, with the highest being “Superior Achievement,” followed by “Above-Standard Achievement,” “Standard Achievement” and “Substandard Achievement.”

Within two months after receipt of the final FIRST rating, each school district must announce and hold a public hearing to distribute a financial management report that explains the district’s performance and the district’s rating. This is set to occur at the district’s regular board meeting in November.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jeff Bright continues to credit district staff and the school board for maintaining high standards and seeing that San Angelo ISD strives to operate efficiently, effectively, and within the limits of state and federal guidelines.

The district pursues a philosophy of complete transparency and invites all interested parties to view our financial data on our web site, www.saisd.org – which has been awarded with the highest distinction of “Platinum Circle Member” by Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar.
