ASU Hosts Two Guest Speakers for Russian Enrichment Program

 

Angelo State University’s Russian Enrichment Program will host two guest speakers from the University of Texas at Austin on Wednesday, February 17, in room 004 of the Academic Building, 2502 Dena Drive, said a press release Tuesday.

The event is sponsored by the Department of English and Modern Languages and the ASU Russian Club. It will start at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

According to the press release, Dr. Keith Livers, an associate professor in UT’s Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies, will speak on “Conspiracy Talk in Putin’s Russia: From Riot to MH17.” He will briefly examine the prominence of conspiracy theorizing in contemporary Russian political discourse. Brian Selman, a master’s degree candidate and teaching assistant at UT’s Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies, will speak on “Bullied, Branded and Blacklisted: Backlash to Celebrity Dissent in Russia’s Culture War.” An opportunity for discussion with the speakers will follow the talks.

ASU’s Russian Enrichment Program offers speakers and discussions during the academic year intended to encourage the study of Russian language and culture.
