4th of July Fireworks Show on Lake Nasworthy Goes Out With a Bang

The 2014 Time Clock Plus 4th of July Fireworks Show at Lake Nasworthy captured the attention of San Angelo Saturday. Residents flocked to the lake to view a spectacular display of fireworks synced with music from radio station KIXY on 94.7 FM.

“[The fireworks are] just beautiful,” spectator Elizabeth Medanich said. “We look forward to this every year. We just love the lake and like to watch the fireworks and it’s a nice area to do it in. It’s cool, breezy, no mosquitos. It just seems to always get better every year.”

The event was presented by Time Clock Plus and the Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association with support from businesses across San Angelo. Fireworks expert Ken Landon orchestrated the fireworks himself.

This 4th of July celebrated the 238th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which declared the American colonists’ independence from Britain. According to tradition, Americans launch fireworks to commemorate the firing of cannons on that day.

“We need to always, not just once a year, but always be reminded that we must always prepare ourselves in case there is another tyrannical government or another country that tries to take away the freedom that we have that we take advantage of it from day to day,” spectator Andrew Waggoner said.

The fireworks stirred feelings of patriotism in many present at the event.

“It’s so easy to live our lives and to forget about what others have done for us, Waggoner said. “To come out and be together regardless of any race, age, gender, religion, culture, political thoughts, we should always be reminded that we had that freedom to express ourselves and those ways and to come together once a year and celebrate that.”

Medanich, who was at the event with her husband, has viewed the fireworks show at Lake Nasworthy for eight years and plans to come back as much as she can.

“I think this is very important that we should celebrate this day,” Medanich said. “This is our freedom and our country and I just think we’re very blessed. God has blessed this nation and I just hope he continues to do that. God bless America.”
