SNAPS Photo Contest Coming to a Close, Enter Now

SAN ANGELO, TX - This year is the third annual SNAPS! Photo Contest, and the entry deadline is drawing to a close. Friday, Sept. 30, is the last day for photo entries to be submitted to the City of San Angelo’s Parks and Recreation Department, 702 S. Chadbourne St.

The focus of this year’s photos contest is “San Angelo in Motion.” The entry fee for the contest is $10 for two images and $5 for each additional image up to a total of five photos. Checks should be made payable to the City of San Angelo Public Art Commission. If the submission is being mailed in, it must be post marked no later than Sept. 30.

Entry forms can be found at the Parks and Recreation Department office, or online at http://www.cosatx.us/home/showdocum….

The Public Art Commission is the sponsor for this contest, and its page states, “SNAPS! is open to all photographers. Entries must be on a CD in a jpeg format in high resolution (300 dpi.)” CDs that are entered must be labeled with the photographer’s name and the number of photos on the disk.

Ida Rios, administrative assistant for the City of San Angelo’s Parks and Recreation Department, explained that usually someone from the ASU Art Department judges the photography contest.

“The [photos] are not divided by age group. They are all entered together. The judge doesn’t see any names; he just sees the pictures,” Rios explained. “The [contest] is a lot of fun. The art will be displayed at the [City] Council meeting room (at the McNease Convention Center). We encourage anyone to enter, all age groups.”

The Parks and Recreation Department’s website also stated, “The first-place winner will receive $250, second place $150 and third place $100. Merit awards will also be presented. All accepted work will be displayed in the City Council chambers at the McNease Convention Center from Nov. 17 through May 17, 2017. All accepted photos must be framed and ready to be hung.”
