Kevin Fowler in San Angelo

By Mark Kneubuhl
Special to LIVE!
September 8, 2007

Kevin Fowler typifies all that is good about Texas. He’s kind, humble and good-natured. But there is one thing that can really rile him up, which he forewarns his audience at every performance: “DON’T…. (LIVE! Photo/Mark Kneubuhl)
Kevin Fowler, who preformed Thursday night at Graham Central Station in San Angelo, Tex. needs no introduction.

His songs are testimonials, latent with honest country sediment and lots of campfire humor (usually for adult cowboys). Of which, tunes like “Beer, Bait, and Ammo” and “Don’t Touch My Willie” helped fuel Fowler’s ballistic voyage to the top of his game.

A native of Amarillo who grew up listening to Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard cassettes, Kevin dabbled with various rock bands before turning his full attention to his own vision of music in the late 90s.

Today, the Kevin Fowler name is associated with packed venues and “crowds gone wild.” It’s also synonymous with sales: His new single, “Long Line of Losers,” has quickly climbed the Texas music chart to #6 (last week) and is expected to hit #1 even before the CD, Bring It On, is released later this month.

“We’re real happy with it and it looks like it’s goin’ to the top,” Fowler told LIVE! after the show. “This new CD is where we've been, where we're going and where we are right now, a snapshot of us frozen in time,” he added.

Fowler’s music is a hybrid of all that is country mixed in with good ol’ Rock-n-roll. Or, another way to say it is that it is a cross between CMT and MTV. But again, If you live in Texas (or anywhere else, for that matter), Kevin Fowler needs no introduction. Let’s just look at the photos from Kevin Fowler in San Angelo:

“TOUCH…

"MY..."

"WILLIE!"

And yes… the crowd went wild. They also seems to know every word of Fowler’s honky-tonk anthems such as “Beer, Bait, and Ammo,” “The Lord Loves a Drinking Man,” and “Loose, Loud and Crazy.” (LIVE! Photo/Mark Kneubuhl)

After the concert, Kevin dashed to the merch-table, greeting the fans with a “Bring It On” zeal. “This new CD is where we've been, where we're going and where we are right now, a snapshot of us frozen in time,” he said. (LIVE! Photo/Mark Kneubuhl)

“Excuse me Mr. Fowler but I just can’t believe that lit’l’ ol’ me forgot to bring something to write on… how about signing me?” (LIVE! Photo/Mark Kneubuhl)

Local singer/songwriter Keri Rucker poses with Kevin after the show, which she opened. “That was an awesome experience,” she told LIVE! Rucker will soon be releasing her first CD, produced by Kevin Fowler’s drummer and band leader, Ken Tondre. (Separate story coming up next week) (LIVE! Photo/Mark Kneubuhl)
