Wireless in San Angelo: Where the free "hotspots" are

Several places around town allow you to get your Wi-Fi on. (istockphoto image/Sandra O'Claire)
What’s the point of being "connected" if you can’t travel? Here is a list of scenes around the city where you can access the Internet away from home. Find the one that suits you best.

Old Time Pit Barbecue
1805 S Bryant Blvd
655-2771

Free bread, a jalapeno bar, and now Internet connection at the Old Time Pit. Place your laptop on this barbecue dig’s wooden picnic tables, but be sure not to let any juices get on it. And clean off that table when you’re done. It’s an odd place for wireless, but we’re not complaining.

Texas Coffee Company
2201 Knickerbocker Rd
223-5282

March 2007 baby Texas Coffee Company has it all. Business folk and students alike go bananas for TCC’s offerings, especially the caramel macchiato and strawberry banana smoothies. Live bands on the weekends (this weekend features Midland’s Brandon Dobbs).

Baker Street Coffee House
3502 Knickerbocker Rd
949-7046

This haunt has a possibly more-than-cult following that praises Baker Street’s mudslides, turkey avocado sandwiches, and “White Phantom,” a sublime concoction of Dr. Pepper, cherry flavor, and half and half.

Hard Back Coffee Café at Hastings
3504 Knickerbocker Rd
949-9401

The Barnes & Noble of San Angelo, here you can buy new and used books, rent or purchase movies, and drink coffee while you’re at it.

Tom Green County Library
113 W Beauregard Ave
655-7321

Tom Green is pretty future-forward. Don’t have time to check out books? Download ‘em from the Library’s digital media catalog (click here). They’ll be returned for you. Don’t have time to get to the library? Join the online book club, and you can get book chapters e-mailed to you. And oh yeah, if you actually do feel like stepping foot inside their physical location, they have wireless.

Holiday Inn Express
4613 W. Houston Harte Expy
223-2200

If you’re a San Angelo outsider, this lodging has free wireless. It also has a workout room and free continental breakfast.

We now have a new fedexkinkos in San Angelo. For those who
need more than just an internet connection. They have the
capability to print black and white, color, and oversize.
They can also laminate and bind any of your projects. They
also have computer and laptop stations for people to use.
Best of all, they are open until 10:00 pm on weekdays!
