Barger coined the term “weblog” for his practice of logging and explaining links on his site, Robot Wisdom, circa 1997 (that blog became known for its critical essays on James Joyce). There are now over 100,000 self-published blogs a day.
Some sources cite Dave Winer as the first blogger. His Scripting News shared the sites he had visited over the course of the day. The New York Times has called him the “protoblogger.”
By now, people have become famous (Matt Drudge, Perez Hilton), gotten book deals (Jessica Cutler), and made fun of the news in real time (Drew Curtis) via blogs.

And the name of conservative syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin to the right of the sparse page, under a blue link deemed “blogroll.”
