Young People Could Use More Virtual News

Young and disinterested in the local paper? What if you could get the sports section on your mobile phone? In this article, Philip Stone offers daily papers some advice on how to capture younger audiences—by going digital. But not just on the Web.

 

The San Angelo Standard Times' idea of “multimedia” on gosanangelo.com is along the lines of the photo gallery they posted of yesterday’s propane truck explosion on State Highway 208. They’re not alone in their wayward idea of "multimedia": Stone says that while most newspapers have online contingencies now, they are not doing enough with streaming video. After all, over 50 percent of people 18-30 still go to television for their news, according to Stone.
