Trey Bissett, bareback bronc rider from Bay City, Texas was attempting to get into “the money” Friday evening at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. To move into the top 10, and qualify for the much coveted “short go,” all he had to do was score an 85.

We followed Bissett in his quest. It was a successful ride, staying atop the beast for the entire eight seconds and longer, but not successful enough. The horse he drew, Cajun Moon, wasn’t mean enough to get him the 85 he needed. He is out of the competition and looking forward to competing in Scottsdale, Arizona next week.

Jordan Hooten, bull rider from Mount Pleasant, Texas drew one of the most notorious bulls at the rodeo Friday evening. Night Show was his name, and a wild ride the bull gave a few weeks before at the San Antonio rodeo provided a score of 90 points, quite high in rodeo terms. The bull was big, black and mean as Hooten mounted him in the bucking shoot with much anticipation.

But to the surprise of many, the bull whipped left, then right, and then just stood there, negating any score at all for Hooten. “The bull just quit,” Hooten said afterwards. Hooten is hoping for a re-ride.

There were four successful bull rides in Friday’s go round. Logan Knibbe scored the highest with an 88 on Mister Twister. Second was Puff Puffer, 78, on Twisted Fate. Cody Hodges, on Blind Date, scored a 74. Close behind in fourth place was Howdy Cloud on Free Bird with a 72. All the stats and standings from the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo are available here .
