Tonight we will be watching a Jeff Healy video in honor of his recent passing. Jeff was well remembered for the song "Angel Eyes", but his contribution to the Blues cannot be overlooked. Jeff had battled with cancer since he was one year old. Retinal cancer took his eyesight at an early age so he learned to play the guitar by laying it on his lap. He was in the movie "Road House" with Patrick Swayze (who has also been diagnosed with cancer).
Also we will be discussing a Blues concert on April 19th, downtown at Sealy Flats. We need bands to play from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is in conjunction with "Art for Senses" with The Art Museum, Downtown San Angelo, and Downtown Merchants Association.
The Honeydrippers movie with be playing at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas starting March 7. There is a possibility that we could bring this great Blues film to San Angelo. It is a feature film will not be shown at our local theaters. We can use the film for education or fund raising. There is a study guide with the film that is intended for use as a supplement to courses in music, media/film studies, social studies, and American history. http://www.angelikafilmcenter.com/angelika_film.asp?hID=7915&ID=87e973n....
We will have the results from the Pinetop Perkins concert today. I will present that to the club tonight. We had a great concert and a great time with Jeff Strahan, Jimmy Rose, Rich DelGrosso and Pinetop Perkins.
The Lily Garden should be blooming again soon. Several people asked if we are going to have another Brown Bag and Blues for the Lilies. It's time to get that organized for that event. Terri and Mark did a great job last year.
Come out and join us for some fun tonight!
