Space Cadet Set To Land At The Steel Penny

The Steel Penny is putting on an otherworldly rock show this weekend when Austin-hailing Space Cadet is set to launch around 10:30 pm Saturday.

Among their many travels, Space Cadet have shared the stage with numerous bands that have rocked the Steel Penny, including The Feds, Bowling For Soup, the All-American Rejects, and Junior.

Space Cadet have put out three albums on Kirtland Records beginning with 2003’s “Greatest Hits” CD, which featured 14 of their best-known tracks. “Greatest Hits” was followed up with “Debutante” (2005), an album inspired by vocalist and guitar player Ted Levin’s relationship with a woman who wanted more than the aspiring musician could provide. “Debutante” confronts the materialism beaten into women’s heads in modern-day America, and features a remake of Kim Carnes’s 1981 hit single, “Bette Davis Eyes.”

In January 2008, Space Cadet released their third album on Kirtland Records, “Closest Thing To Closure,” which the band is currently touring on. Of the 12 tracks on “Closest Thing To Closure,” you can check out previews of “Sellout” and “The Letdown” on the band’s MySpace.

With a style of upbeat, high-octane music that fits well with the emerging Texas rock scene, Space Cadet is sure to find its way to the top of the list when it comes to bands that have played The Penny. Check them out this coming Saturday and prepare for lift-off!
