On Thursday, July 3rd, those gathering in downtown San Angelo will hear the strains of patriotic music played by the San Angelo Symphony floating through the night air while fireworks explode brilliantly in the darkened sky. Our active duty military stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base will help us start the event with a parade of flags and our friends at Dyess will complete the grand entrance with a flyover of military air craft. Historic canons from Fort Concho and other Texas historic landmarks will sound off as the Symphony performs the "1812 Overture." July 3rd has been and continues to be the traditional date for the San Angelo Symphony presentation of the Town & Country Stars & Stripes July Pops Concert at the Bill Aylor Memorial River Stage. Each year the concert proves to be an exciting event with something for everyone, and this year's is no exception. There is a reason why OVER 35,000 consistently show up to celebrate our country's independence at the THIRD LARGEST CELEBRATION of its kind in the State of Texas.
This year's Town & Country Stars & Stripes July Pops Concert will truly be a special event as it is dedicated to the Symphony's former conductor and the concert's founder, Gene Smith! Before the concert at a special fundraising SUMMER SUPPER set to take place at the historic Cactus Hotel in downtown San Angelo, the Symphony will honor the former leaders of Town & Country Food Stores who passionately supported the July Pops for over 15 years. Special guests such as Congressman Mike Conaway and State Representative Drew Darby will be there to help us acknowledge these tremendous community leaders.
