Criticism of football usually begins with the claim that it teaches violence to children or that the game is born out of thuggery that stands in the way of harvesting world peace and understanding around the world. High school football in West Texas has roots in more violent versions of the game of years past, but today’s coaches say that there is much more to the game than that.
It’s being billed as The Concho River Music Fest, featuring 11 big name Texas country music acts playing non-stop for 12 hours on Saturday, September 22nd at the San Angelo River Stage (16 E Avenue A, San Angelo, Texas). Learn more about the organizers and who is coming here.
San Angelo musicians have coagulated as a group where otherwise they were scattered and unorganized. Since around the turn of the millennium a musical renaissance was steadily gaining momentum here in San Angelo, where local singer/songwriters are beginning to see more clearly just who they are and where they are going. And they are gaining audiences.
Wing Stop's busiest day so far was last year’s Superbowl where they had to create a schedule of time slots where customers could order in advance. “All day long we were cooking to capacity, which is 600 wings every 15 minutes. That day certainly paid our rent for the month,” owner Douglas Williams said. The franchise just celebrated selling its one billionth chicken wing. Here's the San Angelo story.

Dan and Jewell Bailey are retiring from the bar business in San Angelo after a 10-year stint as proprietors of Bailey’s Sports Bar and Grill (2319 W.Avenue N, San Angelo, Tex.). They have entered and agreement to sell the establishment effective Oct. 1. But before they leave, they tell us about the challenges and fun they’ve had along the way.
