LAS VEGAS, NV — All three of San Angelo’s tie-down ropers competing in the National Finals Rodeo finished in the money during Round 5 on Monday.
Joel Harris led the way with a second-place showing in a time of 7.6 seconds, which was just 0.2 seconds off the winning time by Huntsville’s John Douch.
Harris earned $28,980 for his performance. It was the second time he’s finished as the runner-up in a round at this year’s event, and it was the third time he finished in the money by placing in the top six.
Dylan Hancock was fourth after a time of 8.0 seconds, which earned him $15,377.
Ty Harris tied for fifth in 8.1 seconds and pocketed $7,688.
At the halfway point of the 10-round NFR, Hancock is in fifth place in the overall standings with $226,658.01 in season earnings.
Joel Harris is right behind him in sixth ($214,728.16), while his brother, Ty Harris, is in 11th ($176,767.47) in the 15-man field.
Shad Mayfield of Clovis, New Mexico, leads the way with $376,510.99. He and Denton’s Riley Webb are in a two-way race for the title. Webb has $370,429.63.
The NFR will continue with Round 6 on Tuesday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
