DENVER, CO — The Angelo State volleyball team fell one win short Saturday of returning to the national tournament.
The Rambelles’ season was ended in a 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 loss to Metro State in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament in Denver.
ASU had a 13-match winning streak heading into the match, and the Belles had dropped only three sets in the last 12 matches.
They had their best chance Saturday in the second set with a 20-18 lead, but the Roadrunners reeled off seven straight points to take the set and grab command of the match.
Metro State improved to 29-3, while ASU’s season ended with a record of 26-8.
Madi Parrish led ASU with 10 kills and 15 digs, while Julia Hopkins had 11 kills. Krizia Perez and Madison Scrivner each added 10 digs.
It was the second consecutive year ASU was playing in the regional final. The Belles won the regional title last year before falling in the national semifinals.
Hampered by injuries, ASU started off this year 13-7, dropping the Belles from the Top 25 national rankings. By the end of the season, however, they again proved they were among the best teams in the nation.
