Beverly Ann Pearson

05/01/2026 - 22:27 , by TKing09

Beverly Ann Pearson, born on June 26, 1953, in Plainview, Texas, passed away on April 28, 2026, in San Angelo, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Beverly lived a life centered on family, compassion, and the simple joys that made each day meaningful. She was the daughter of Gladys Marie Knox and was preceded in death by many loved ones who helped shape the strong and caring woman she became. She is survived by her sister, Linda Hollis, and her brother, Benny Workman, who will hold the memories they shared.

Beverly was a devoted mother to Allen Heldenbrand, John Heldenbrand, Teresa Bess, Carl Stewart, Ernest Stewart, and William Willis. Her children were among her greatest blessings, and she took great pride in each of them. She loved them deeply and supported them in every season of life, offering encouragement, comfort, and steady strength. Her love for her family was unwavering, and her presence was a source of warmth.

She was also a proud grandmother to Dustin, Rayne, Gage, Cobie, Kandace, Kasyn, and eight additional grandchildren, as well as one great-granddaughter. Beverly treasured her grandchildren and found great joy in watching them grow, learn, and make their own way in the world. She loved attending their football games and cheering them on VERY LOUD and proud. These moments brought her happiness and created memories that her family will carry forward with gratitude and love.

Beverly had a special affection for animals, especially her dogs Trixie and Little Man, along with many others throughout her life. Her dogs were dear companions to her, and she cared for them with the same tenderness she showed to the people around her. She also enjoyed going out to eat with her family, sharing meals, laughter, and conversation. Her time spent coloring and painting reflected her appreciation for creativity and beauty in everyday life.

One of the greatest joys in Beverly’s life was watching her son Allen at his ropings. Those who knew Beverly understood that her heart was always with her family, and she found fulfillment in being there for the people she loved most. Her encouragement, loyalty, and steady presence were gifts that touched many lives.

Beverly will be remembered as a loving, kind, and generous woman whose heart was open to others. She gave freely of herself and made those around her feel valued and cared for. Her family and friends will remember her for her warmth, her devotion, and the quiet strength she carried throughout her life. Though her absence leaves a deep void, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Her life was a testament to the power of family, love, and kindness. Beverly Pearson’s legacy will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, siblings, and all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love and gratitude.

Beverly had this beautiful declaration of faith written in her journal by her bed “I am the daughter of a King who is not moved by the world for my God is with me and goes before me. I do not fear because I am His.”

Richard Sepeda Sosa, Sr., passed away peacefully on April 27,2026, at the age of 85.

Public Viewing will be from 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Robert Massie Funeral Home with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM. Liturgy of the Word will be at 10:00 AM Friday, May 1, 2026 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Deacon Claudio Sanchez, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Richard was born to Jose and Trinidad Sosa on April 11, 1941, in San Angelo, Texas.

He was called Babas by all his grandchildren, and great grandchildren, in fact, that became the name everyone in the family called him; it was no longer dad, he was Babas. We fondly remember him playing hide and seek with his grandchildren when they were toddlers and to help the little ones find him, he would make the sound "baa-baa" "baa-baa" like a baby sheep, and thus the name Baba was born.

Richard owned and operated Sosa's Tire Shop on Ave K for over 3 decades, and with his kind, high-spirited, funny personality his customers became his lifelong friends. His laughter was contagious and his generosity was a true reflection of his character.

Richard loved his Tire Shop, fishing, spending time with his family and he loved the Dallas Cowboys. He also loved the staff at St. Juanita Retirement and Rehab, the entire staff brought so much compassion and warmth to our father's life, and their care was a true blessing. We thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts for being a 2nd family to our dad - you will never be forgotten.

Richard joins his parents, Jose and Trinidad; his sister, Josephina Sosa; Odelia Dietz; Alicia Jasso; his brothers Joe Sosa and Arthur Sosa Sr.

He is survived by his son, Richard Sosa Jr, and Mandy; three daughters, Sylvia Mascorro and Felix, Cynthia Alvarez and Jeremy, and Monica Gutierrez; two sisters Irene Deleon, Manuela Gatica and one brother, Rudy Sosa. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Richard III, Valerie, Jeramiah, Sky and husband Aaron, Robert and wife Victoria, Alyssa, Lauren, Destiny and husband Pete, Sabrina, Allison, Alejandro, David and wife Veronica, Nicole and husband Jesse, Sonia; and numerous great grandchildren.

We invite all who knew and loved him to join us in honoring.

Gene Howard Kvapil

04/29/2026 - 10:38 , by TKing09

Gene Howard Kvapil, 87, husband, father, grandfather, and brother, went to be with the Lord on April 28th. Born in Rowena, TX to Anton and Caroline Kvapil on June 13, 1938, he attended Wall High School where he was a member of the very first graduating class. This was when his passion for basketball began, and he passed this down to his daughters, cheering for them in their games, rehashing the games when we got home, and taking us all to the Boys State Basketball Tournament every year for the next fifty. His many special friends in sports included the “front row crew”: Ralph Matschek, Tommy Chapman, Doc Reel, MIke Braden, Kenneth Powell, Frank Gerngross Jr., and Russ Weatherford. Other special friends are—for the love of the games— Randall Caussey and wife Lynanne and the late Coach Warren Townley and his wife, Nona. An avid Wall Hawk fan, he loved everything Wall Hawk, and he bled green.

One of Howard’s legacies is the watermelon business. With a picnic table in the front yard, he and his girls sold a few melons from the garden that first year, enough to pay for a trip to Six Flags! From there, he planted more and more every year, and soon was wholesaling melons all over town. His work ethic was unmatched as he demonstrated daily how hard work paved the way for family unity and pride in one’s efforts. These traits were passed down to his next generation where his grandkids worked the melon fields too. His mantra when it finally rained: “The melons are laughing.” He would literally sing that line every time it rained. Customers knew that they would get “the sweet one” when they came to Howard’s roadside stand, and he loved waiting on his customers.

Howard worked for several years at Mustang Chevrolet as Parts Manager, and then for 30 years at Goodyear Proving Grounds where he made many lifelong friends, and—after retirement—weekly coffee buddies: Jimmy Badgett, James McWorter, Morris Overstreet, and Nelson Roach.

Howard considered his mule deer-hunting friends especially close: Nolan Niehues, Delbert Halfmann, Norbert Matthiesen, Jerry Hoelscher, Dwayne Hoelscher, Leon Halfmann and the late Buzz Stice, Arnold Matthiesen, and Clifford Hoelscher.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Hoelscher Kvapil, daughters Terri Walling and husband, Jamie, Vicki Beard, and Janice Matschek and husband Greg—all of Wall. He is also survived by a brother, Frank, and his wife Karen of San Antonio, TX., and brother-in-law Norbert Matthiesen, of Brady, TX. Surviving grandchildren are Dean Beard and wife, Zoey of Marble Falls, Justin Walling and wife, Jenna, of Austin, Austin Matschek and wife Taylor of Wall, Allison Beard of San Angelo, Michael Walling of Iraan, Brent Matschek and wife, Allie of San Angelo, Kelsey Walling of Austin, and Ryan Walling of Eldorado. Howard is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Cameron Beard, Maddox Beard, Mauri Jo and Mabri Matschek, Emmett Walling, and Miles Matschek.

He is also survived by his in-laws: Dwayne and Janell Hoelscher, Sandra and Steve Cooey, Jerry and Arlene Hoelscher, and Steve and Jennifer Hoelscher along with many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Caroline Kvapil, Sister Billie Jean Matthiesen, in-laws Herbert and Florine Hoelscher, Sisters-in-law/Brothers-in-law Clifford and Joyce Hoelscher, and Frank and Marjorie Hoelscher.

A devout Catholic, Howard was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Ambrose Choir, and he raised his family accordingly in the faith. He was also a Wall Booster Club President in 1976.

Rosary service will be recited at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Thursday, April 30th, at 6:00 PM. Funeral mass will be Friday morning at 10:00 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall, Tx. The burial will follow at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery.

We want to especially thank Keith Goodman, Amy Watkins, and Jeanie Torres for their special help with our dad.

The pallbearers will be all the grandchildren.

Cathey Aline Landon

04/29/2026 - 10:35 , by TKing09

Cathey Aline Landon, 76, passed peacefully from this earth on Saturday, April 25, 2026, after a brief illness.

She was born on December 25, 1949, in Mineola, Texas, to B.C. and Novis (Ruth) Ellington, and was raised in Snyder, Texas. At just 15 years old, she began “going steady” with Dennis Clay Landon. Two weeks after graduating from Snyder High School, Cathey and Clay were married on June 7, 1968. This June, they would have celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Cathey and Clay began their life together in San Angelo, Texas. As Clay worked in the oilfield and Cathey devoted herself to raising their family and caring for their home, they lived in several places over the years, including Snyder and Lamesa, Texas; Lovington, New Mexico; Ozona, Texas; Velma, Oklahoma; and La Veta, Colorado, before eventually returning to San Angelo to be near family in retirement.

In 1987, Cathey began a career in banking at Crockett County National Bank in Ozona. She later served as a Personal Banker for Wells Fargo in San Angelo, where she worked for many years at the 19th Street branch. She concluded her career after relocating to Oklahoma. Raised in the Baptist church, Cathey faithfully taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years.

She was an exceptional cook; known especially for her homemade cinnamon rolls and pork ribs and the meals she lovingly prepared for Clay’s coworkers in the gas plants. They always looked forward to any occasion when Cathey was cooking.

Cathey loved her family deeply, and her greatest joy was having her children and grandchildren gathered around her—whether for holidays or simple weekend hamburger cookouts. She cherished those moments, often retelling favorite stories that brought laughter time and again.

Affectionately known as “Granma,” she embraced her role as a grandmother with her whole heart. She made each grandchild feel uniquely special through adventures in the little orange car in Colorado, dress-up and tea parties, the treasure box, craft-making, or creating special photo albums to capture their time together. Many cherished memories were made in her kitchen, with grandchildren standing on chairs or sitting on the counter, cooking alongside her.

Cathey would do anything for her family and always said she “loved them more” even in her very last days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Charlie and Joyce Landon; her bonus parents, Blair and Mickey Thompson, and her daughter-in-law, Amy Barnes Landon.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Clay Landon; her children, Kelli and Greg Rowe, Clint and Laurie Landon, Cody and Teal Landon, and Kara Landon and Sergio Rico; her precious grandchildren, Amy and Micah Davidson, Annalynn Pitzer, Joshua Vasquez and Isabella Longoria, Erick Rowe, Sara and Miles Duncan, Corbin Landon, and Macy Jo Landon; and her great-grandson, Banks Davidson.
She is also survived by her siblings, Danny and Carol Ellington, Bennie and Lori Ellington, Kay Ellington and Barbara Brannon, and Curtis and Kathy Landon, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that were very special to her.

A celebration of Cathey’s life will be Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Providence Baptist Church in San Angelo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to West Texas Boys Ranch or Hospice of San Angelo.

Elizabeth Anne Dutton

04/29/2026 - 10:33 , by TKing09

Elizabeth Anne Files Dutton entered her heavenly life on April 25, 2026, welcomed by her parents, Sidney J. Files, Jr., and Jennie Buttrill Files; and other cousins, friends and loved ones. Those left behind will miss her daily and pray for the reunion in heaven - her lifetime love Tony Randolph Dutton, married almost 62 years; her daughters Heather (wife Lois), Margaret (husband Josh), and Kathryn (husband Joe); and grandchildren Mike, Charlie, Dorothy, Helen, Katherine and Eliza.

Anne was born September 2, 1942, in Upper Darby (PA). Her father worked for General Electric and moved the family multiple times, including to Indianapolis, Dallas, Beaumont and Burlingame (CA), where Anne spent elementary to 6th grade. From there they moved to Houston (TX) where Anne graduated from high school as the valedictorian of Spring Branch High School, of a class of 475 students.

Anne attended the University of Texas at Austin in the Plan II Liberal Arts Honors program, which is where she met her future husband Tony, during her junior year. She graduated with honors in 1964. She and Tony were married at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston (TX) on June 20, 1964.

Anne’s family was a strong Presbyterian family, and Tony was a devout member of the Disciples of Christ Church growing up. They found the Episcopal church in their early married life, then converted to Catholicism in their later married life. Church and an active spiritual life have always held special significance for Anne and Tony.

Anne and Tony were teachers all their adult lives. Anne taught mathematics, eventually heading the mathematics department at Central High School in San Angelo.

Anne was especially talented in artistic endeavors. From needlework to crocheting, drawing and ceramics painting, Anne was a proficient and creative artist. She even became a skilled stained-glass artist in her 40s. She instilled a much-appreciated love of artistic creativity in her daughters and grandchildren.

Service was especially important to Anne. Besides countless church volunteering and decades of weekly delivery of Meals for the Elderly, Anne was active with the PEO organization - including serving as the president for several years - always offering her time and talents to others.

Anne was always up for an adventure, moving with Tony from Texas to Ithaca (NY) for Tony’s PhD program at Cornell University. They drove a Volkswagen bug the whole way, in the summer, with an almost 2-year old Heather and while Anne was 8 months pregnant with Margaret. They then drove back to Texas 2 years later in that same bug, now with 2 young daughters and again, Anne 8 months pregnant with Kathryn. They led countless family trips to Estes Park (CO) through the years, which remains a special place for the Dutton family. The family is especially appreciative of the many memorable moments in Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park with family and friends.

Always up for travel, Anne was awarded a Fulbright trip which took her to Japan along with teachers from all over the country. Anne and Tony spent several hours in the car and by plane to visit Heather and her family in California; Margaret and her family in Ohio, Switzerland, Amsterdam, and Connecticut; and Kathryn and her family in Texas. Keeping close connections to family was central to Anne, and the relationships she nourished are a true testament to her love.

A few notes from Anne’s private journal, dated summer 1956 (at age 13)… Under hobbies, she listed “arts and crafts” and “knowledge for care and happiness of my own children.” Another entry… “Whatever I decide to do must be in helping others. I’ve thought of being a teacher, a nurse, a missionary, a director of religious education, and a social worker.”

Tony, Heather, Margaret and Kathryn want to send special thanks to all those who gave Anne’s life peace and comfort in her last years - Jocelyn and her team of resident assistants and med techs, Rachel, Clint, and the full team at Brayden Park Assisted Living and Memory Care; Meghan Hunter (registered nurse from Gentiva Hospice); and the countless others who took such tender care of Anne.

Anne will be mourned every day - and celebrated - by all those who had the fortune to know and love her. The family will host a visitation on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, 4:00-6:00pm, at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo (2606 Southland Blvd), with a rosary to follow at 6:00pm. A celebration of life and Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the Catholic Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in San Angelo on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 10:00am, with a reception to follow (20 E Beauregard Avenue). The interment of Anne’s ashes will be at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park (CO) at a later date.

For those wishing to honor Anne, we would welcome donations to Meals for the Elderly in San Angelo (https://www.mealsfortheelderly.org/) - where Tony and Anne volunteered for decades - or to a charity of your choice.

Jimmy "Jim" Ray Barton

04/29/2026 - 10:31 , by TKing09

Jimmy (Jim) Ray Barton, Sr. was born on November 28, 1944, to Alice Garner Barton and Alvin Leslie Barton in Kilgore, Texas. He was raised in Midland, Texas, alongside his beloved older sister, Danetta (Dani Hill).

A proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Midland, TX. After graduation, Jim answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army’s renowned Hell on Wheels Tank Corp Division. He served with honor and pride.

Returning to Midland, in 1965, Jim married Sue Easley of Midland, and, alongside his wife, managed the Barn Door Restaurant, embracing a life of hard work and hospitality. He welcomed his firstborn son, Jimmy, on June 18, 1967, in Midland, beginning a chapter of fatherhood he cherished deeply.

In 1974, Jim and his father founded two oil field companies—A.L. Barton Transports and Polk-a-Dot Water Hauling—which he operated until 1999. He was also the founder and owner of Shutter Bug Photography of Big Lake, Texas, where he became well-known for capturing school events, graduations, weddings, Quinceañeras, and sports moments—sometimes even risking life and limb, as when he was famously run over by a football player while shooting action shots. His photographic talent earned him numerous state awards, proudly displayed in his studio. On July 18, 1975, Jim and his wife welcomed their son, Jamie Barton, who became well known in the community and later passed away on December 1, 2010.

In November 1998, following a divorce, he met Madeline Carraway Summerlin at a symphony in San Angelo, Texas. They were married on July 2, 1999—a date carefully chosen by Madeline. Jim wanted to marry Madeline on July 1st, which is Madeline’s birthday; however, Madeline chose July 2nd, to ensure she would receive separate gifts (birthday and wedding), which was something both often shared in laughter. Together, they built a life filled with work, travel, and partnership.

A creative soul, Jim perfected a jalapeño and pimento cheese spread from a cherished family recipe, known as Pappy’s Jalapeno Cheese Spread. Although imitators tried, none matched the original—its secret is still held with Jim.

Jim’s work ethic and warmth were evident throughout his career, including ATS Transport, where he established a life-long friendship with Roger Street, a fellow driver, where they transported materials from San Angelo to Presidio and Winters.

For a time, he was employed at City Lumber and, most recently, at McCoy’s, where he forged lasting friendships with management, staff, and customers. He held special affection for colleagues like Ron Terrell,Mgr., Will Alberthal, Sierra and all the office help and Felicia (“Buckwheat”), who became work buddys and true friends.

One of Jim’s proudest moments came in 2021, when he participated in the Permian Basin Honor Flight, a meaningful journey made possible by Tami Cooper, of Christoval, a veteran and one of the organizers of this non-profit veteran programs in Christoval, Texas.

Jim’s life was grounded in faith, shaped by his Pentecostal Christian upbringing under the guidance of his pastor parents. He was an active member of the United Pentecostal Church, attending the Door of Hope on Preusser Street with Pastors Jonathan and wife Ashley Marshall.

Jimmy’s many memberships include: Cushman Motorcycle Association, National Rifle Association, Bow Hunters of America, Professional Photographers of America, Board and Elder of Door of Hope United Pentecostal Church, and Board of Finance Committee of San Angelo Federal Credit Union.

Jim’s legacy endures in the hearts of family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know his kindness, creativity, and generous spirit. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.

Special thanks go to St. Gabriel’s Hospice, Donna Gallegos, Tammy Celaya, and all the staff. Also, the EMTs of both Christoval and the City of San Angelo, Texas. Special thanks to Shannon Medical Center 4th and 5th floor nurses, especially Emry, RN and Manuela RN and all those who provided comfort. Appreciation is also extended to the wound care staff, Dr. Mills, and Denise, as well as Jessica of Shannon Home Health. They all in their own specialties helped Jim through his fight with Congestive Heart Failure.

Madeline would like to thank her friend and LVN (ret.), Blossom Kotrla, for the above and beyond care and nursing information she provided when Madeline had to give IV antibiotics. She was there night and day whenever she was needed.

Preceded in death were parents, Alvin and Alice Barton, sister, Danetta Hill, brother-in-law, Arnold Lee Hill and son James “Jamie” Barton.

Survivors include Jim’s wife, Madeline Barton, stepson Charles (Chip) Summerlin, son Jimmy Barton and wife Patricia, grandson Baylee Barton, nephew Tommy McNeill and wife Christy, great niece, Amanda Brinkley and husband, Steven Brinkley and their children Texas, Ella and Shooter.
