The City of San Angelo Proclaims April as National Donate Life Month; Donate Life Flag Raising Ceremony Set for April 7
The City of San Angelo will officially proclaim April as National Donate Life Month during the City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, recognizing the lifesaving impact of organ, eye, and tissue donation and honoring the generosity of donors, recipients, and donor families within the community. Following the proclamation, a Donate Life Flag Raising Ceremony will take place the same day, April 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Shannon Medical Center (120 E. Harris Ave.) in front of the hospital’s flagpole. Community members, healthcare professionals, donor families, and advocates are invited to attend.
National Donate Life Month raises awareness about the critical need for donation and celebrates those who give the ultimate gift of life. More than 100,000 people nationwide are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant. Locally, Tom Green County donors saved 13 lives in 2026, leaving a lasting legacy of hope and healing in the community. Of the estimated 120,000 residents in Tom Green County, 40,000 adults in our community have not yet registered as organ, eye and tissue donors.
The flag‑raising ceremony symbolizes unity and commitment to donation awareness and will feature remarks recognizing donors, living donors, recipients, and the organizations that make lifesaving transplantation possible.
This event is made possible through community partnerships with Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA), Shannon Medical Center and Donate Life Texas, whose continued collaboration helps educate the public and encourage donor registration throughout the region.
Residents are encouraged to learn more about organ, eye, and tissue donation and consider registering as a donor to help save and heal lives. They can register online at https://www.tosa1.org/.
