Vivian Lucille Gist was born to Maggie and Andrew Walton and was the youngest of four children, she was born on July 16, 1916, in Rockdale, Texas, where she attended school and began the first part of her education. Her parents moved to San Angelo, she attended and graduated from Blackshear School. She met the love of her life Lolis Gist, Sr.; they married and were blessed with 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls. Mrs. Gist worked as a homemaker, domestic worker, and a daycare worker throughout her life. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was raised Baptist from childhood. She attended Mount Zion Baptist Church until the church dissolved. While her husband worked diligently at their carpet company, she had her favorite pass times of cooking homemade dishes of various sorts to provide for their family. She enjoyed singing gospel songs, walking for exercise, and enjoying nature, sitting on the front porch feeding the birds, and feeding stray cats that always came for the treats she had for them. When she couldn't attend church any longer, she faithfully watched it on television. Her most cherished times were when her children would come to see her that lived out of town, her great-granddaughter serenading her with the flute, sitting on the front porch with one of her sons, and her oldest son bringing her Kentucky Fried Chicken on Sunday. She was also so proud when most of her children were able to celebrate family and honor her, the first week of July this year.
She leaves to cherish her kindness and memories, Lolis Gist Jr. of San Angelo, Billie Barber of Claymont, Delaware, Patricia Henry of Overland Park, Kansas, Jackie Gist of Houston, Eleanor Bush of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mona Gist-Ray of San Angelo, Janet Nieves of Atlanta, Georgia, Gerald Gist of San Angelo, Shawn Gist of Grand Prairie, a special niece, Mary McFall of Dallas, Texas, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other family members and friends. Her loved ones who preceded her in death were her parents, Maggie and Andrew Walton, her siblings, her husband, Lolis Gist Sr., her sons Charles Wayne Gist, Ronnie Drew Gist, Lonnie Keith Gist, and a special niece, Wanda Broussard.
