Raul Flores Flores, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by his family on March 11, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on October 19, 1931, in Sanderson, Texas, Raul spent his early years working on various ranches alongside his family before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force from July 1951 to July 1955.
After his military service, Raul settled in San Angelo, Texas, where he dedicated his career to serving the community. He worked as a deputy with the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department before moving into construction with McCrea Construction Co., where he provided support at Ethicon in the facilities maintenance department. Throughout his years in San Angelo, he formed many lasting friendships, including those made while working at the Old Coach Motor Inn, where he was deeply respected by his employers, coworkers, and friends.
Raul was an avid golfer and as member of the San Angelo Pan American Golf Association, he placed in numerous tournaments. He also loved hunting, camping, and cooking outdoors—never minding the West Texas heat, which he embraced wholeheartedly. His grandchildren will always remember his playful insistence that San Angelo water, full of "vitamins and minerals," was the secret to growing strong.
Raul was preceded in death by his parents, Isidoro and Rebecca Flores; his grandparents, Nicolás and Ramona Flores (Ama & Apa), his beloved Uncle Papa Marcos and wife Melita, who lovingly helped raise him; his sister, Isabel MacAfee; and his granddaughter, Katrina Cardenas.
He is survived by his loving children: Mary "Pinkie" Cardenas (Danny), Rebecca F. Martinez, Sylvia F. Flores (Lena), Rose Marie Flores, Raul N. Flores (Vickie), and Edna A. Flores. He is also survived by his brother, David Flores; his sisters, Betsy Arreguy (Ralph), Martha Flores, and Rebecca Acosta (Tony); his eight grandchildren: Karla Bali (Greg), Dave Cardenas, Jason Martinez (Lisa), Michael Anthony Martinez, Jessica Valenciano (Tony), Megan Flores (Taylor), John P. Flores (Kaylyn), and Bianca Flores; and eleven great-grandchildren: Kryslynn, Elia, Gianni, Devin, Dylan, Rebecca, Antonio, Jolene, Layla, Jude, and Penelope. Raul also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and members of his extended Flores family in San Angelo, who were always there with love and support.
Visitation for Raul will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 6-8 pm at Johnson's Funeral Home. His Funeral Service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, March 15, 2025 in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
A special thank you to his primos and primas for their visits and kindness, and to Visiting Angels, St. Gabriel Hospice, and Krystal from Shannon Home Health for their compassionate care. A very heartfelt thank you to our prima Sandra Flores for her constant love and support for primo Roy.
Raul’s son, Raul N. Flores, along with his grandsons John P. Flores, Jason Martinez, Michael Anthony Martinez, Greg Bali, and Tony Valenciano, will carry him to his final resting place. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
