Melanie Jan (Henson) Sherman, 60, passed peacefully on September 16, 2025, at her home in San Angelo, Texas. She spent her final days as she spent the entirety of her life, surrounded and embraced by her loved ones.
Jan was a proud native Texan born in Welch, Texas, on October 14, 1964. She attended Dawson High School in Welch, where she was a 4-year cheerleader. Shortly after graduating, she met her future husband, Patrick Sherman of San Angelo, and they fell in love. Patrick and Jan married in 1985 and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They became the parents of Taylor Sherman in 1989 and Hollye Sherman in 1992.
Throughout her life, Jan had a passion for helping others. She became a Registered Psychiatric Nurse at an early age and helped treat and rehabilitate thousands of patients in West Texas during her decorated career.
Jan possessed a gorgeous soul, a beautiful smile, a quick wit, and a personality that was as tough as it was gentle. She was a gifted listener with a wonderful sense of humor. Those who knew her best will always remember the meaningful conversations they had, the smiles, laughs and great times with all those she loved.
That’s when Jan was happiest—in the company of her friends and family, as she so often was. You could also find her at peace reading a book by the campfire, solving an advanced-level jigsaw puzzle, sharing a funny anecdote with a crowd, or listening to smooth rock and roll by the popular Sherman pool house.
The Sherman family would like to thank all those who have supported Jan and Patrick in recent months. Your outpouring of love will never be forgotten.
Jan is survived by her devoted husband Patrick; mother, Ann Henson; sister, Kim (Jerry) Doss; son Taylor (Mishelle) Sherman and daughter Hollye (Ben) Nelson; grandchildren Pierce and Macie Nelson; cousin and lifelong best friend Pam Chastain; nephew Chance Doss; niece and family Charati Doss-Leach, Chris, Addison, & Chandler Leach. She is preceded in death by her father, Edwin Henson.
A public Memorial will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas on September 20, 2025 at 2:00pm and a Celebration of Life to follow at the Sherman family home.
