Anna Lee Holtkamp Black of San Angelo, Texas, died April 21, 2026, at her home. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. at Sudan Methodist Church, Sudan, Texas, on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with Rev. Tamara Strehli officiating. Burial will follow in the Sudan Cemetery in Sudan, Texas, under the direction of Harper Funeral Home.
Anna was born June 7, 1929, in rural Lamb County, Texas, to Leonel Albert Holtkamp and Norma Marie Alma (Hill) Holtkamp. She attended Littlefield schools from first grade through graduation. Anna worked for several years as a stenographer-secretary for the Texas Department of Health and Human Services until her marriage to Richard Earl Black of Rural Bailey County on February 12, 1950. They were married 66 years until Richard’s death in 2016.
Anna’s faith in Christ was evident in her kindness and humility; it gave her peace, hope, and a deep sense of purpose. She and Richard were members of Sudan Methodist Church where she served as teacher and leader in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, the Kids for Christ program, and as president and treasurer of the United Methodist Women.
Anna and Richard moved to San Angelo in 2013 and affiliated with Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, where she served as a substitute teacher for her beloved Mary – Martha Sunday School class.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Richard. She is survived by her sons Richard Lee (Janell Ross) and James Anthony (Beth Ann Riggs); daughters Susan Elizabeth (Don Girvin Ball) and Sheryl Lynn (Nathan Lee Ray); eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Helen Harper.
