Guadalupe “Wally” Perez Garcia was born on August 23, 1944. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Marie Scrivener, on April 11, 1964. He joined his wife on July 24th, 2026, at 10:35 in Heaven with his family by his side.
Wally is survived by his daughters, Katrina Kay Torres, Tena Marie Garcia and Nellie Nicole Garcia; grandchildren, Antonio Isaac Torres (spouse Alexis), Alexander Vincent Torres, Santana Christopher Torres (spouse Rebecca), Kenner Hagen Prosise and Sarahlynn Piper Sutton; sisters, Mary Celum and Judy Dominguez. Brothers SJ Garcia, Leo Garcia and Fidy Garcia. He also has 10 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews that adored him. Wally also has brothers and sisters in law from both sides of the family that claim him as their own.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leonides and Eugenia Garcia; sisters, Ramona Garcia, Belen Moreno and Hope Robertson; and son in law, Antonio “Tony” Torres.
Wally was not a very educated man by any means but he was super smart at building, tackling, or welding anything that you can think of. He only had a 3rd grade education and could not read or write, but could get you from here to Houston just by looking at a map. If he did not have a specific tool for a project, by golly, he would weld one together and it would hold up better than anything made today. Wally was a farmer, welder, mechanic, hunter, fishermen, cook … this list could go on and on. One thing for sure, Wally was a helper. He would help a stranger on the side of the road just because it is the right thing to do. Many, many a fish fry had been made by our father along with our mother’s wonderful potato salad. It seemed that there was always enough for everyone to enjoy.
With not having any sons of his own, Wally took his love of the outdoors and taught several of his nephews and grandsons the same love and respect for the outdoors. In that same instance of not having any sons, the 3 girls worked harder than any man could - from building a house to tearing it down, hauling hay or pulling the boat along a trotline with a 30 pound yellow cat fighting all the way. Our father opened his home to any family in need - for a day or a year. He made it work. Even though the roof was small, his heart was huge with love. He touched many, many lives with his knowledge, helping hands, and hard work education. You will be missed Mesican!!!
A Celebration of Wally's life will be held Saturday August 1, 2026 at 10 A.M. in the Young Farmer Barn in Miles, Texas with Pastor Jordan Sloan officiating. Inurnment to follow at the Miles Cemetery.
