Rhyder McCray left the world behind way too early from our perspective and went straight into the arms of His heavenly Father on August 23, 2026. The Lord gave him to his mother, Jessica, on April 9, 2014, in San Angelo, TX. Rhyder was born into a family of love and faith that was led by his Pop, Lloyd McCray and his Granny, Suzanne. Lloyd gladly took on the role of leading until the Lord brought Jonathan Harlin into Jessica and Rhyder’s life. The Lord would go on to give Rhyder a sister, Steeley, and a little brother, Truett. Together they made a home where the love and truth of the gospel is enjoyed and shared.
Rhyder was a boy looking to become a man just as soon as he could. He loved to hunt, fish, and ride dirt bikes. The young man found it hard to be scared or intimidated by anything. Rhyder’s parents had a drug problem; He always drug them to church. If mom or dad wanted to take a Sunday off from church, he would ask “don’t you love Jesus?”, and they couldn’t turn down his encouragement to go to church. He was a fixture from birth at Immanuel Baptist Church where he participated in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and church camps, though he did way more fishing at camp than camp activities. He loved to serve in evangelistic outreach events at church, where one fateful summer He trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
He is survived by his mom and dad, Jonathan and Jessica Harlin, his sister Steeley, and little brother Truett and his grandparents, Lloyd and Suzanne McCray, Jeff and Melanie Harlin, great grandparents, Robert and Ann Johnson, Gary and Jo McCray, and great grandfather, John D. Burk, uncle Alex McCray, aunt Kathryn Harlin, aunts and uncles, Sam and Madison McCray, Justin and Jessica Harlin, Jeffrey and Christina Harlin, cousin, aka Best Friend, Wayne McCray, Virgil McCray, Kasey McCray, Leila, Paxton, Landree, Mickey and Cameron Harlin and other extended family.
Preceded by great grandmothers Sherry Burk and Linda Lou Harlin, great grandfather William Bill Harlin, great great grandfather J.D. Burk, great great grandmothers and grandfathers Elsie and Lloyd Williams, Ruby and Horace Johnson, Cliff and Amy Elliott, Minnie and Ardis McCray.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M., - 7:00 P.M., Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Immanuel Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas. The Funeral Service and Celebration of Rhyder’s Life will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 31, 2026, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Ryan Buck officiating. There will be a private burial.
