Dwayne showed a strong sense of responsibility from a young age, leaving school at 15 to work and support his mother and siblings. He served in the Korean War. After his service, he dedicated himself to a career with Black Civil and BCBS Byson Steel Company in Oklahoma City, OK. Then he returned to Bronte and worked at the local tire station to continue supporting his family. At the time, gas cost 29 cents a gallon and oil changes were 25 cents a quart. Dwayne eventually went back to school and earned his high school diploma. He took up farming and had an impressive talent for construction, building his own house and workshop. He enjoyed simple pleasures like being outdoors, welding, and watching western films.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gene Walker and Buddy Walker, and sister Rena Dogget. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Ofilia M. Walker, and his bonus children Rebecca Mercier (Tom) of Jacksonville, FL, Robert Rullan (Maria) of Van Horn, TX, Johnny Rodriguez (Elvira) of Royce City, TX, Jim Santiago Rodriguez (Veronica) of Bronte, TX, Joey Rodriguez (Kathie) of Burleson, TX, and Julie Skomorokhov (Mikhail) of Alpharetta, GA, along with many devoted grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who affectionately called him Uncle Son.
