Housing Thousands of Illegal Immigrant Children at Goodfellow AFB Could Strain Water Supply

SAN ANGELO, TX — The federal government’s plan to house up to 7,500 illegal immigrant teens and personnel to watch them at Goodfellow Air Force Base could put a strain on the already depleted water supply for San Angelo.

In fact, this week the city announced it had a 25 month supply of water remaining in the middle of  the hottest and driest month of the year. City Public Information Officer Anthony Wilson told Stars & Stripes that the city stands ready to assist the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in any way it can.  Goodfellow AFB receives its water from the city and would be required to adhere to the restrictions, which include 5 percent increase in billing.

“It’s a matter we’re giving careful assessment to and discussing with federal officials,” Wilson said. “We are relying on the Defense Department and HHS to give us some idea about how much water may be needed.”

If the city’s water supply drops to 24 months, the conservation plan enters drought level one.

According to the city’s website, outdoor watering would be allowed only “Once every seven days up to 1 inch per week. Landscape or foundation watering with a drip irrigation system such as a soaker hose, deep root watering system, drip pipe or tape, or bubbler shall be permitted on any day and at any time of day provided that the total amount of water applied shall not exceed 1 inch per week."

"Hand watering of lawns, gardens, landscape areas, trees, shrubs or other plants being grown outdoors or foundations may be done on any day, except during the prohibited watering hours of noon to 6 p.m., provided the allowable application rate of 1 inch per week is not exceeded.

"Golf course greens may be watered daily except during the prohibited watering hours of noon to 6 p.m.,” according to the City.

Should the water supply drop from 25 to 24 months, Goodfellow AFB would see a 5 percent increase in its water bill as would businesses and some residents in San Angelo.  O.H. Ivie Reservoir, the City of San Angelo's primary water source, sits at 15 percent full as of Thursday's water use report. That is down from 20 percent full last November. The City of San Angelo water works delivered 16.4 million gallons of water per day on Thursday, which is near peek usage for the year. In the cooler winter month of November 2017, water use dropped to 8.2 million gallons per day.

It is still unclear when the immigrant teens will arrive at Goodfellow AFB, but fencing the 75 acre compound and installing the separate gate along with water and utilities for the temporary housing facilities will take 30 days and hasn’t begun.

Shouldn't even be noticeable if Trump and city leaders get on the same page.... They're illegals for Pete's sake. They are being housed as criminals over here illegally. They don't need 4 star catered meals. A bowl of soup and a roll 3 times a day should suffice. They don't need a professional barber for hair cuts, just somebody with a pair of shears should suffice. Creating water concerns ? I don't see how taking a group of 50 illegals and issuing the whole group 10 gallons of water per week to use as they please will create any shortage. In a short couple of weeks, they'll all be begging to sign paperwork to be transported back to their motherland..........

Uh, illegals always create a "strain." From the authorities required to control their entry into America, to health care, taxes, crime, etc. The list goes on and on. Yet, Democrats want them in this country. Hell, Democrats actually want to abolish ICE and allow illegals unfettered access into America. As long as Democrats continue their ridiculous far left tactics, they will never win another national election of any consequence. 81% of Americans want our borders controlled and 64% want illegal aliens returned from whence they came. Democrats are simply out of touch with the majority of Americans.

And regarding the separation of illegal alien families. I pose this question: If you are arrested for robbing a bank and sentenced to prison, do your kids get to share a cell with you? I didn't think so.

Boost San Angelo's population by 20% and you will lose 20% of your water or have to increase your supply by 20%. It's called "The Hard Equations." The plan is for up to 20,000 undocumented minors to be housed here.

It used to be illegal for a Mexican and a white folk to marry each other. It used to be illegal for women to vote. Just because you call them illegal, doesn't make it wrong. It's time to stand up. Laws can be changed, just look how flawed the Constitution is and how much it has been ratified. Laws are meant to be changed if there are injustices but the politics have you worried about your drinking water. Those dirty migrants. This is the same thing they said in Germany. Blame the Jews for your lack of jobs and water.

Oh my gosh you're so right! Just because child molestation, rape, robbery, etc are illegal doesn't make it wrong! Give me a break. If the very first act of living in a country is BREAKING A LAW, then you're a criminal. These people are criminals. The first thing they did was break a law. If you're a person of sound mind, you can't honestly say that you would prefer to have massive amounts of criminals moving into your city. You either have to be legally mentally disabled or a terrible human being. So which is it?

@Johnny when white folks "enforced the law" and brought escaped slaves back to their masters, was this racist or just doing their job?

One basic question the open border proponents seem to overlook is "Why do the people of South and Central America and those in Mexico want to reside here? There are a multitude of reasons, but it really boils down to one simple reality. Our standard of living is much better than theirs. With each immigrant that enters without documentation, they are not able to live the American dream because they are hiding from authorities, no green card, no social security # or contributions, no drivers license, etc. So these folks do see an improved lifestyle, but return nothing to the federal entitlement programs that the Dems fought so hard to enact, and that many undocumented migrants benefit from. So, with each "illegal" migrant, we citizens experience a chipping away at our own standard of living. Nothing racist about it. If the tidal wave of immigration was flowing over our Northern border and Canadians were fleeing to the land of milk and honey, we'd still have the same problem. I'm old enough to say from personal experience that we've already seen a significant decline in our standard of living since the 60's and 70's, not all attributable to immigration, but why let it continue without restriction?
James Mason.......I really don't care what you think....I'm not impressed by plagiarism.

They want to reside here because our own policies forced them out of work. We created this problem.

Most Canukians wouldn't want to live in the USA. They view it as the land of meth and murder, not milk and honey. There are a few of us that are here for work, or personal reasons, but most of them wish for the great white north...me included.

America's love affair for illegal narcotics is making life miserable in this country and in their Homeland.

In 2017, visa overstays outnumbered illegal border crossings. Russia's Pootin uses this "pourous border scare tactic" as divide and conquer. Treacherous Russian President trump is allowing him to advance his plan.
