Shannon Wins Award for Heart Attack and Stroke Care

SAN ANGELO, TX – The American Heart Association has bestowed upon Shannon a series of distinguished awards, underscoring their unwavering dedication to implementing best practices and life-saving care.

Shannon's commitment to adhering to contemporary, research-based guidelines for treating heart disease and stroke has earned them four esteemed accolades from the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline programs. These achievements underscore Shannon's pivotal role in enhancing patient outcomes, reducing recovery periods, and minimizing hospital readmissions, ultimately saving more lives.

In the United States, a sobering statistic looms - every 40 seconds, someone experiences a stroke or heart attack. Heart disease ranks as the nation's leading cause of death, and stroke follows closely as the fifth. Research has consistently demonstrated that patients have a greater chance of recovery when healthcare providers consistently implement established treatment guidelines.

The Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline initiatives channel the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to benefit hospitals nationwide. These programs are instrumental in ensuring that patient care aligns with the most current evidence- and research-based guidelines. By participating in both initiatives, Shannon has proven its unwavering commitment to advancing heart disease and stroke care.

Dr. Rudy Haddad, a Shannon Clinic Interventional Cardiologist, affirms this commitment, saying, "Shannon is committed to following the latest treatment guidelines and streamlining our process to make sure we treat heart attack and stroke patients quickly and effectively. These programs make it easier for us to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work every day, so we can help patients in San Angelo and the Concho Valley live longer, healthier lives."

Shannon's dedication was rewarded this year with an impressive array of achievement awards, including:

  1. Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Silver Plus Award
  2. Mission: Lifeline NSTEMI Gold Award
  3. Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Award
  4. Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
  5. Get With The Guidelines® Heart Failure Gold Plus Award
  6. Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll
  7. Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll

John Warner, MD, FAHA, past president of the American Heart Association and CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, praised Shannon's commitment, stating, "We are pleased to recognize Shannon for its commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care. Hospitals that follow the American Heart Association's quality improvement protocols often see improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions, and lower mortality rates - a win for health care systems, families, and communities."
