What’s Open and Closed for Memorial Day in San Angelo

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — In observance of Memorial Day, numerous city, county, and federal services will be closed Monday, May 26, 2025, while most retailers and essential services remain open.

City and County Closures

City of San Angelo and Tom Green County offices will be closed Monday, with normal operations resuming Tuesday, May 27. Closed city facilities include:

  • City Hall and Community Development building

  • City Hall Annex

  • Animal Shelter

  • Fairmount Cemetery business offices

  • Municipal Court

  • Parks and Recreation offices

  • Health Department

  • Southside and Carl Ray Johnson recreation centers

  • Station 618 and Santa Fe Crossing senior centers

  • WIC offices

Trash collection will continue as scheduled. The landfill will be closed on Saturday, May 24, but will reopen on Monday.

Retailers and Grocery Stores

Most national retailers will remain open for business, including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Kohl’s, Macy’s, and Ulta. H-E-B will operate under normal business hours, with its pharmacy open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sam's Club will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Plus members and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Club members on Memorial Day, according to the company's website.

Banks and Mail Services

Banks, stock markets, and post offices will be closed. FedEx and UPS will suspend most services.

Memorial Day Events

Fort Concho will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 9 a.m. on the Parade Ground. Army veteran Charles Anderson will serve as guest speaker. Memorial salutes will be performed by the Fort Concho Living History program and Sons of Confederate Veterans, with refreshments provided by the Pocahontas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Fort Concho will also be open for self-guided tours from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 26, at 4989 FM Highway 1223 in San Angelo. The event invites the public to honor and remember those who gave their lives in service to the nation. For more information, call (325) 944-5000.

Municipal Pool Opening

The San Angelo Municipal Pool, located at 18 E. Ave. A, opened for the summer season on Saturday. It will operate from noon to 6 p.m. on Memorial Day. Regular hours are Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. Entry is card-only. Reservations and pricing are available at sanangelo.gov/pool.

Local Nightlife

Arc Light Bar & Grill, 441 Rio Concho Dr, will host a Memorial Day Weekend celebration on Monday, May 26, featuring a special DJ set by J-Mix from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event will include a mix of country, reggaeton, and hip hop, with doors opening at 11 a.m. and food and drink specials available throughout the night.

Travel Outlook

AAA projects over 45 million people will travel this holiday weekend, with 39.4 million going by car and 3.61 million flying. Gas prices are averaging $3.18 per gallon nationwide, down from last year. Travelers are advised to plan ahead due to increased demand and possible delays.
