SAN ANGELO, TX— A new Mexican restaurant is being built in San Angelo in the location of an old donut shop.
In the August 2025 building and inspection report, Taco Veloz has had a permit issued in the amount of $125,000. Taco Veloz is taking over the old Express Donuts & Kolaches location at 2202 Sherwood Way, across from the old Medical Arts Pharmacy.
Not much is known at the moment about the taco location, but construction crews are putting in windows and siding on the building. In January 2021, then 21-year-old Grace Sanchez rammed the building in a 2006 Gray Ford SUV.
According to the San Angelo Police Department, officers were dispatched to 2202 Sherwood Way regarding a major motor vehicle crash. On scene, police discovered the Ford SUV was traveling westbound on Sherwood Way, left the roadway, and struck the building.

In their investigation, the driver, Sanchez, was charged with driving while intoxicated, obstruction, retaliation, and failure to control speed. Police also said Sanchez became angry with the responding emergency personnel and threatened to harm them at the scene.
The owner of Express Donut & Kolache said they did not have insurance for this type of incident and went as far as starting a GoFundMe to help get the breakfast spot reopened. Since the building has sat vacant.
