Bass Pro Shops Outpost Planned for Abilene Development

ABILENE, TX — Bass Pro Shops has announced plans to open a new Bass Pro Shops Outpost in Abilene, a 72,000-square-foot retail store that will anchor the Rainy Creek planned development.

According to information released by the City of Abilene, the new location will be built along Interstate 20 near East Ambler Avenue. City officials said the project is expected to create new jobs and attract visitors to the area while expanding retail options in the Big Country.

“I am thrilled we get to share the news of this exciting addition to Abilene,” Mayor Weldon Hurt said in a statement. Hurt said the store will provide products and services in high demand locally while offering a unique shopping experience for residents and visitors.

Taylor County Judge Phil Crowley said the project represents a significant development opportunity for the region and is expected to create jobs and showcase the area’s interest in outdoor sports and recreation.

The Development Corporation of Abilene said the project aligns with ongoing economic development and infrastructure efforts intended to support existing employers and attract new investment.

The Bass Pro Shops Outpost is expected to open in early 2027, according to city officials.
