PREVIEW: Lake View Squares Off Against Big Spring Steers in High Stakes District Game

BIG SPRING- The Lake View Chiefs are in a must-win scenario this week when they travel to Big Spring to take on the Steers.

Lake View (3-5, 0-2) vs Big Spring (4-3, 0-1)

The Chiefs took big loss to Brownwood last week 60-13 and are on a four-game losing streak. That needs to change against Big Spring because if it doesn’t the Chiefs will more than likely miss the playoffs.

The running game for Lake View is rolling and got better with the return of Ricky Ramirez who broke the Chief’s first big play against the Lions. Ramirez and Ian Cortez put up 127 yards last week and together have over 1,000 yards on the season and 11 touchdowns.

Quarterback Bryce Medley had a couple of good drives and ended the game on a high note with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Davashtian Manley. One of those drives however ended with a fumble in the end zone.

Speaking on Manley, he’s the go-to guy out wide. Derrick Taylor, Adrian Flores, and Adam Robles are the other targets, and they even gave Brownwood some fits on the right side of the field. Medley picked on the cornerback and completed several throws for decent yardage.

Defensively, Taven White and Elijah Stone, and Eric Paez Jr. lead the team in tackles and the defense can still play the pass well as they’ve got 10 interceptions. They stay around the ball and have five fumble recoveries and one caused fumble.  If the Chiefs could put more pressure on opposing quarterbacks, the team has five sacks this season and that could turn into more interceptions.

The Big Spring Steers had a week off last week and also have the pressure of winning this one. Whoever wins this game will probably make the playoffs at the fourth spot. This is a winnable game for the Chiefs. Over the past couple seasons, Big Spring and Lake View have been in the same district and the Chiefs won last year 49-35 but lost the year before 35-21.

District Standings:

  1. Brownwood Lions
