WATCH: Sterling City Wins State

ARLINGTON, TX -- Sterling City made program history on Wednesday afternoon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington as the Eagles won the 2020 Class 1A Division I State Championship. 

The Eagles would surrender the game's first touchdown of the afternoon. May junior running back took the pitch and went 67 yards to the house giving the Tigers the 8-nothing lead.

After some back and forth scoring Sterling City would take control of the game with under 5 minutes to go in the first quarter when Hudson Cox found Damian Calderon for a 30-yard touchdown to make to give Sterling City its second lead of the game 20-14. 

From there it was the Cross Knittle show. Already with a 27-yard touchdown in the first quarter, the senior running back would chime in with four more touchdowns. His efforts lead him to be named the game's offensive MVP finishing with 5 total touchdowns along with 11 carries for 249 yards rushing. Chance Ferguson was named the defensive MVP with 9 total tackles. 

The Eagles would put in play the 45-point mercy in the opening drive of the game when Hudson Cox found Damian Calderon for a 29-yard touchdown followed by a Raul Sanchez extra point attempt to end the game 68-22.
