Car Fire Chars Vehicle on S. Bryant Blvd.

A charred shell is all that remains after a vehicle caught fire and was engulfed in flames in the 5000 block of S. Bryant Blvd. Tuesday at roughly 4:35 p.m.

According to Fire Marshal Ross Coleman, the vehicle was traveling north on Bryant just south of Ben Ficklin Road when he began experiencing troubles.

"The driver had had problems immediately preceding the fire, engine problems," Coleman said. "His vehicle stalled. He started it back up when he got back onto Bryant. He was cruising at about 45 miles per hour when he got notified by a passerby that the bottom of the engine part of the vehicle was on fire."

Coleman said the man then immediately pulled over and exited the vehicle, then attempted to extinguish the fire but he couldn't open the hood due to the heat.

"The fire then took over and burned the vehicle up," Coleman said. "There were no injuries or anything like that and right now, the cause of the fire is going to be undetermined, but it seems to be originating in the engine compartment on the top below the hood."
