Driver Involved in Semi and Fiat 500L Crash Pays Outstanding Warrants to Avoid Jail

The driver of a semi-trailer truck avoided jail Wednesday afternoon by paying outstanding warrants at the scene of a crash that occurred on 19th St. and Bryant Blvd., said a San Angelo Police officer.

At approximately 2:25 p.m., the driver of the semi was traveling northbound on Bryant Blvd. He was at a red light on 19th Street preparing to make a right turn. Although the driver indicated he was going to make a right turn through his signal light, the driver of a Fiat 500L drove up next to him in an attempt to make a right turn as well.

“Through investigation, it was determined that the Fiat failed to pass safely because the 18 wheeler was close as practical to the curb to make a right turn,” the officer said. “The accident was actually reported by an officer who was behind it at the time.”

The official added that there were no injuries or citations. However, the Department of Transportation did go out to the scene to conduct an inspection and ensure everything was safe on the truck and to verify it was functioning properly.

During the investigation, investigators also learned the driver of the semi-trailer had outstanding warrants, so an official from the City Marshal’s office went out to the scene. The driver avoided going to jail by paying off his outstanding warrants.

The officer added that eastbound traffic in the area will be blocked for another 30 to 45 minutes.
