Another Left Turning Crash at Bryant and Houston Harte; One in Hospital

At 12:50 p.m. this afternoon, two vehicles collided at the left turn light just after the Houston Harte Expressway underpass at 7th St. One of the two drivers was sent to Shannon with incapacitating injuries.

According to San Angelo police, a white Toyota Rav 4 was northbound on N. Bryant Ave. and attempted to turn left, or westbound onto 7th St. which is also the frontage road for westbound traffic getting on the loop.

The aqua-colored Toyota Celica was southbound on Bryant.

As the Celica approached the intersection, the Rav4 turned left in front of it and the Celica collided with the right side door of the Rav 4. It appeared that all of the airbags in both vehicles deployed.

Police said that in their investigation so far, they have determined that both vehicles had a green light, however, police do not believe the Rav 4 had a protected green arrow for the left turn.

The driver of the Rav 4 was placed on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance for the short ride to Shannon’s ER. The other driver claimed injuries too, but it was not serious enough for an ambulance.

Police said that the investigation isn’t complete as the lead investigator must obtain a statement from the other driver now at Shannon. He said the way it looks so far is that the Rav 4 driver will be cited for failure to yield the right-of-way in the left turn.
