Driver with Learner’s Permit Causes Collision on Bryant

A young driver with a learner’s permit caused a collision this afternoon on Bryant and 7th St.

San Angelo Police Officer Brian Bylsma said he was dispatched to the crash, and upon arrival, he learned a red Chevy Tahoe, traveling northbound on Bryant, was about to make a left turn onto 7th St.

The driver told Bylsma he had a green light.

There was also a white 2014 GMC Sierra traveling southbound on Bryant. The driver of the Tahoe said a vehicle in front of him made a left turn, and he started to follow it. That’s when he saw the Sierra coming southbound and tried to pull out of the way. The vehicles ended up colliding.

The driver of the Sierra was transported to Community Medical Center prior to Officer Bylsma’s arrival at the scene.

The driver of the Tahoe was not injured, but he was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way turning left and for not having a licensed driver 21 or over in the front seat.
