Envoy Driver Flips Car While Reaching for Cell Phone

SAN ANGELO, TX - A driver of a GMC Envoy was injured in a single-vehicle rollover east of San Angelo Friday afternoon.

According to Trooper Robert Aldrete, the driver was eastbound on FM 388 at 5:15 p.m. As she approached the double curves near Hohmann Rd., the driver said she reached for her cell phone. Distracted, she didn’t see the 45-degree turn and ran off the road and flipped over.

Location of this crash:

Aldrete initially said the driver was not wearing her seatbelt, but further nvestigation ruled she was. She was not incapacitated by her injuries, however. But a San Angelo EMS ambulance transported her to Shannon Medical Center to be checked out.

Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies and the East Concho VFD assisted at the crash scene.

Citations are pending the outcome of the investigation.

DPS said after further investigation revealed the driver was wearing her seatbelt. The story was updated at 7:24 p.m. to reflect that.
