Fire Department Frees Trapped Mississippi Man After Roll-Over Crash on Armstrong

SAN ANGELO, TX — A man in his 80s was trapped in his Honda CRV in a single-vehicle rollover crash in the 4900 block of Armstrong at approximately 3:30 p.m. today.

According to SAPD Traffic Investigator Brian Bylsma, the man, who was the sole occupant, was traveling southbound on Armstrong near the intersection of 50th St. when he lost control for some reason. Bylsma said the facts are the driver failed to control speed, but he is not sure if there were mitigating circumstances for doing so, like a medical issue.

Bylsma said his investigation informed him the driver left his lane of traffic and crossed over in the oncoming lanes before driving off the roadway. The CRV hit a pole and took out a portion of a fence next to the roadway as it rolled over onto the passenger side and trapped the driver.

Bylsma said the man has a Mississippi address but may have originally been from San Angelo. He is not releasing the name yet.

Bylsma said the man was freed by the San Angelo Fire Department and before departing the crash scene via ambulance, was seen and heard talking to the medics.

No citations were issued pending a completion of the investigation, Bylsma said.
