Icy Highway Causes Fatal Crash in Tom Green County

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – Texas DPS has confirmed a fatality that occurred Thursday in Carlsbad.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Feb. 11 at around 8:30 a.m., troopers with the Department of Public Safety were dispatched to US 87 in Carlsbad for the report of a rollover crash. 

When troopers arrived they found a 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup and towed trailer that had rolled over into the borrow ditch.

EMS and Fire were dispatched to the crash scene and two passengers where found inside the truck. 

The driver, Williams West Jr., 84, of Spokane, WA, was pronounced dead by Dr. Koenig and the passenger Cheryl West, 82, of Spokane, WA, was transported to Shannon North Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries.

A preliminary investigation shows the Dodge Ram and towed trailer were traveling South on US 87. Due to icy roadway conditions, the truck lost control and rolled over into the borrow ditch.
