74-Year-Old Woman Passenger Killed in Highway Crash

 

ANSON, TX – A 74-year-old woman passenger was killed Monday in a crash off of highway 83 in Jones County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on May 3 at around 5 p.m., troopers with the DPS were dispatched to the intersection of US-83 and CR-354 for the report of a major crash. 

When they arrived they discovered a 2007 Dodge Nitro and a 2014 Mazda 2 that had crashed in the middle of the intersection.

The four passengers involved with the crash were taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. In the Nitro the driver and single passenger had non-incapacitating injuries. In the Mazda the driver had serious incapacitating injuries. The passenger of the Mazda, Marcela Bustamante, 74, of Anson was pronounced dead at Hendrick Medical Center. 

Initial reports claim that the Nitro was stopped on CR-354 where it intersects with US-83. The Mazda was traveling North on US-83.  The driver of Nitro pulled out in front of and was struck by the Mazda.

All passengers were wearing their seatbelts. The weather at the time of the crash was cloudy and the road was dry.
