DPS: Passenger Killed in Crash Near Ranger on Rain Soaked I-20 Thanksgiving Day

RANGER – The passenger in a Chevrolet pickup died in a fatal crash in the rain Thanksgiving day on I-20 about three miles east of Ranger.

According to information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, 40-year-old Guadalupe Ortega Ariza of Denver City was a passenger in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 27-year-old Alfredo Guerrero Ariza of Denver City.

The DPS investigation indicates the Chevy pickup was eastbound on I-20 three miles east of Ranger around 10 a.m. Thanksgiving Day when it veered off the roadway into the median.  The driver attempted to steer the pickup back up onto the roadway but lost control and the pickup overturned on a wet and rainy roadway.

The passenger was wearing a seatbelt but sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Jesse Speers.

The driver was treated and released with a non-incapacitating injury.
