Man Dies of Injuries When Struck Down at San Angelo Walmart

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Friends and family mourned the death of 76-year-old Dennis Stewart who died May 31 as a result of injuries sustained when he was struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of the 29th Street Walmart in San Angelo.

Police were dispatched to 610 W. 29th St. — the Walmart Supercenter— in reference to a Major Motor Vehicle Accident on May 26 at 4 p.m.

Upon arrival, police immediately began to administer first aid to an injured 76-year-old male. Stewart was rushed to Shannon Medical Center for treatment and the SAPD's Motors Division were requested to assist with the accident investigation. 

At the conclusion of the preliminary investigation, it was learned that a 26-year-old male was driving a truck and was exiting a parking spot. While exiting the parking spot, Stewart was struck by the vehicle at a very low rate of speed. Police said an accident/incident report was written to document the incident and charges have not been filed. 

Four days later, Stewart succumbed to his injuries and died. In his obituary, Stewart’s family extended their thanks to Dr. Zarate, Respiratory Therapy, and ICU staff at Shannon Medical Center. The family also recognized Alyssa Ruiz, Shellie Villarreal, and Rosemary Sifuentez who provided help at the accident scene.

Stewart was born and raised in San Angelo, according to his obituary, and attended public schools in the San Angelo ISD. He worked for Walmart for over 28 years. His proudest hobby was bass fishing and he was a member of the Concho Bass Club for over 47 years.

He was married to Margaret Jean Huff Stewart since January 4, 1972. Stewart had two grown children, six grandchildren, and a granddaughter.

Graveside services were held on Monday, June 5 at Belvedere Memorial Park where he was laid to rest.
