Big Rig Collision North of Big Lake Claims Two Lives

 

BIG LAKE— A fiery fatal crash in Reagan County claimed the lives of the two individuals involved.

According to information released by the Texas Department of Public Safety, on August 31, 2023, at 2:40 p.m. about 12 miles north of Big Lake, a 2009 International Truck Tractor was traveling southbound on SH 137 and a 2019 Mack Truck Tractor was traveling northbound on the same road.

The 2009 International, being driven by 27-year-old Ezekiel Sosa, of Big Lake, drove into the oncoming lanes where he struck the 2019 Mack Truck, being driven by 38-year-old Jonathan Charles Ray, of Bay Springs, Mississippi. Both trucks were traveling with a semi-trailer in tow at the time of the crash. When both trucks collided, they both burst into flames.

Both Sosa and Charles were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Patty Davenport. The road conditions were dry, and the weather was clear. The investigation was conducted by Trooper Troy Travis with the Texas Highway Patrol.
