Air Ambulance Responds to Drowning Incident in Christoval

CHRISTOVAL, TX — Airmed 1, the air ambulance of Shannon Health, was dispatched to Pugh River Park on FM 2084, also known as Toe Nail Trail, in Christoval shortly after 5 p.m. En route to the scene, our team spotted a San Angelo EMS ambulance speeding towards Shannon on US 277.

Upon arrival, we saw Airmed 1 taking off from the local little league’s baseball field. Access to Pugh River Park has been restricted by the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office while the Texas Game Warden conducts an investigation into the incident.

Officials have reported that a 25-year-old male attempted to swim across the river but encountered difficulties. Several companions dove into the water in an effort to rescue him. The Christoval Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) was the first to respond to the emergency. It was overheard that the prompt airlift might significantly contribute to the man's chances of survival, although initially, those chances seemed grim.

The park, situated alongside the South Concho River, serves as a popular recreation spot. Its maintenance has become a topic of discussion in county politics due to the financial challenges associated with upgrading and preserving the area.
