POOLVILLE, TX - A devastating plane crash in Parker County, North Texas, claimed the lives of a distinguished surgeon and two of his children on Sunday. The incident, which occurred just after 1 p.m. in the Poolville area, which is 2o miles north of Weatherford, has left the community in shock and mourning.
The Parker County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, LifeCare Ambulance, and local fire departments swiftly responded to the crash site near Lone Star Road and BJ Lane. The ill-fated plane, believed to be a twin-engine Cessna, had departed from a Wise County airport with three occupants on board.
Dr. Heath Smith, the school board vice president of Paradise ISD, and his two children were identified as the victims of the tragic crash. The Paradise ISD school officials confirmed the heartbreaking news. Will Brewer, the superintendent of Paradise ISD, expressed profound sorrow, stating, "Our hearts are devastated for the Smith family. Words cannot fully express the grief that we feel for their loss."
Dr. Smith, an esteemed bariatric surgeon with offices in Decatur and Fort Worth, played a vital role in the Paradise ISD community. Having been elected to the school board in November 2017 and re-elected in November 2023, he assumed the position of the board's vice president. The school district highlighted Dr. Smith's dedication to Paradise ISD as an alumnus, parent, and board member, emphasizing his lasting impact on students and staff.
