Hamlin Woman Found Dead on Highway in Suspected Hit-and-Run

JONES COUNTY, TX — A 40-year-old woman from Hamlin was found dead on US Highway 83 late Tuesday night in what authorities are investigating as a fatal hit-and-run.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a driver discovered the body in the northbound lanes of US 83, about half a mile north of FM 3326, around 10:30 p.m. on May 13. The driver notified law enforcement and reported not seeing any vehicles in the area or recognizing the woman.

The victim was identified as Jamie Salazar, a 40-year-old female from Hamlin, Texas. Investigators located a purse near the body that helped confirm her identity. Authorities stated that no witnesses or physical evidence were found at the scene to help identify the suspect or the vehicle involved.

Blood evidence was collected for analysis, and Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guernsey ordered an autopsy.

The case remains under investigation.
