CALLAHAN COUNTY, TX — A 79-year-old Cisco woman was ejected and killed in a rollover crash Friday evening on Interstate 20, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened around 5 p.m., about 8 miles east of Baird. DPS investigators say the driver of a 2001 GMC Sierra, Margaret Stockman, 78, of Brownwood, veered out of her lane while heading eastbound. The vehicle crossed into the center median, then skidded and overturned on the south side of the highway.
Passenger Rosa Soto Escobedo, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck and pronounced deceased at the scene at 5:05 p.m. by Callahan County Justice of the Peace Paige Savell.
Stockman was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene in stable condition with non-incapacitating injuries.
Weather and road conditions were clear and dry. The posted speed limit is 75 mph.
